Mozilla is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Contract) to support the Privacy Team in advancing the Firefox Web Platform. The role focuses on implementing privacy-improving, anti-tracking features and architectural improvements into Gecko, the Firefox browser engine. The work requires building performant, low-latency C++, JavaScript, and Rust code within a geographically distributed team.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Implement privacy-improving, anti-tracking features and data sanitization in Firefox
  • ▹Implement architectural improvements into the Gecko browser engine
  • ▹Build performant, low-latency, and maintainable C++, JavaScript, and Rust code
  • ▹Work as part of a geographically distributed team (mostly Europe and US-East) in an asynchronous manner

Requirements

  • ▹Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • ▹At least 4 years of experience programming in C++ and Rust
  • ▹Strong background in memory safety, multi-threaded system architecture, or raw data stream manipulation
  • ▹Proven ability to onboard quickly and deliver complex software projects
  • ▹Track record of independently scoping and landing complex features within tight release windows
  • ▹Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have

  • ▹Prior contributions to the Mozilla codebase and mission
  • ▹Experience in the browser space (Gecko, Chromium, WebKit) or web engine runtimes
  • ▹Experience or interest in ML pipelines to automate developer workflows
  • ▹Deep understanding of web architecture and the privacy/security model of the web
  • ▹Knowledge of basic statistical modeling
  • ▹Proficiency with Python and SQL
