
Python Software Engineer - Ubuntu Hardware Certification Team
Canonical is hiring a Python Software Engineer for its Certification team, which builds the tools that verify a desktop, laptop, server or IoT device works properly with Ubuntu. Working at the interface of hardware and software, the ideal candidate is a Python developer familiar with hardware. You will maintain and develop Canonical's open source certification tools, support the creation of hardware solutions for test automation, and automate existing processes. The team is centered in EMEA time zones and collaborates with colleagues in the Americas and APAC.
Responsibilities
- ▹Maintain and develop new features for Python-based test automation tools like Checkbox, used by in-house teams and industry partners
- ▹Invent new ways to enable remote, automated testing
- ▹Help build the software counterpart to in-house designed testing hardware for device enablement such as graphics, hotplug and bluetooth
- ▹Write functional and performance tests to support hardware enablement and protect from regressions
- ▹Participate in meetings involving international travel two to three times per year
Requirements
- ▹Knowledge of the Python programming language
- ▹Quality-oriented, pragmatic approach to software design and implementation
- ▹Interest in test automation methodologies
- ▹Previous experience working with Ubuntu or other Linux distributions
- ▹Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team
Nice to have
- ▹Passion for tinkering and a maker mindset
- ▹Experience working in an agile environment
- ▹Hardware testing experience, for example in the IoT space
- ▹Familiarity with the C programming language
