Developer Relations Engineer

Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, has created a new Developer Relations team to engage directly with open source communities and developer-centric organisations. As a Developer Relations Engineer you act as a technical expert, strategist and communicator with deep empathy for developers, bridging the company and its developer audiences in both directions. The team is being built across European, Middle Eastern, African and American time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in team product meetings from strategy to day-to-day development
  • Maintain conversations with developer community members across IRC, social media, forums and meet-ups
  • Help solve specific technical problems for users and colleagues
  • Contribute to technical documentation, articles, presentations and workshops
  • Identify new opportunities to improve the developer experience
  • Present at conferences, meetups and technical events

Requirements

  • Programmer or developer with a demonstrable passion for open-source software
  • Real-world experience developing and deploying software on Linux
  • Hands-on experience of Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
  • Track record of contributing to open-source communities, software and documentation
  • Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company, upstream and partner events

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in a developer advocacy or community role
  • In-depth familiarity with Ubuntu and the Canonical ecosystem of products
