An experienced Taxonomist role within Morgan Stanley's Non-Financial Risk (NFR) Data & Analytics function in the Legal & Compliance division. The taxonomist designs and develops an integrated suite of categories/taxonomies, working with stakeholders, information scientists and Technology partners. The work directly supports semantic search, knowledge graphs, recommendation engines and Q&A capabilities, including ML and GenAI adoption.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Lead the design and development of an integrated suite of taxonomies used within the NFR domain
  • ▹Work with stakeholders across the organization to deliver a broad range of category types
  • ▹Help colleagues develop and implement taxonomies supporting business objectives
  • ▹Support capabilities like semantic search, knowledge graphs and recommendation engines
  • ▹Manage taxonomy change management and governance processes

Requirements

  • ▹Bachelor's degree in library science, information science, computer science or related discipline
  • ▹5+ years of taxonomy management experience in a corporation, government body or relevant organization
  • ▹Proficiency in taxonomy management tools such as Smartlogic, PoolParty and Topbraid
  • ▹Knowledge of semantic technologies, SKOS modeling and SPARQL
  • ▹Experience with metadata standards and information architecture
  • ▹Strong understanding of financial terminology and data structures

Nice to have

  • ▹Direct experience in the financial services industry
  • ▹Knowledge of regulatory requirements in financial services
  • ▹Experience in concept/entity extraction for taxonomy development
