Director of Engineering role at SEON, owning and optimizing the Software Engineering organization and its modern technology stack. Based in Budapest with a hybrid schedule, leading and growing a globally distributed engineering team.
Responsibilities
- ▹Develop and execute the software engineering strategy to drive business objectives and empower teams
- ▹Establish software engineering standards across the SEON platform for consistency and usability
- ▹Build and develop a team of software engineering leaders with clear expectations (1:1s, feedback, career planning, goal setting)
- ▹Lead the team's recruitment efforts to meet growth objectives
- ▹Collaborate with product teams on planning, dependency management and risk management
- ▹Resolve knowledge and process gaps
- ▹Propose and implement development process improvements for greater efficiency
- ▹Work directly with Product Managers, Architects and peer Engineering Managers to deliver value and provide project visibility
- ▹Mentor the team on technical and non-technical skills and handle performance management
- ▹Champion the engineering culture and encourage knowledge sharing
- ▹Act as a thought partner to Technology and GTM leadership, identifying risks and opportunities
Requirements
- ▹8+ years of experience as an Engineering Leader delivering products, core services or comprehensive features
- ▹Experience managing mostly remote teams across multiple time zones
- ▹Hands-on software engineering background, including development on a leading cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure), DevOps and testing frameworks
- ▹Comprehensive technical expertise delivering a B2B SaaS product with a globally distributed, multi-disciplined team
- ▹Strong understanding of how web services and SaaS applications work
- ▹Exceptional service orientation and ability to lead change collaboratively and by example
- ▹Experience growing, coaching, mentoring and giving feedback to engineers, including in challenging situations
- ▹Demonstrated leadership on high-impact projects, preferably in a SaaS startup/scaleup
- ▹Ability to lead with empathy and trust and give constructive criticism
- ▹Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and business levels
- ▹Critical thinking, problem-solving and attention to detail
- ▹Project management experience

- ▹Experience in highly agile startup-like environments

- ▹Experience building high-performance systems with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred)
- ▹Knowledge of modern DevOps technologies such as Terraform, Kubernetes, ELK stack, Prometheus
- ▹Technical expertise with a modern data stack (Prefect, AWS Glue, Iceberg, MLflow, dbt, Snowflake and others)
- ▹Experience with large-scale data migration projects ensuring minimal disruption and data integrity
- ▹Expertise in designing and implementing real-time data processing and streaming solutions
