Backend Tech Lead (Java/Kotlin)
Supercharge is looking for a Backend Tech Lead to spearhead the design, development and evolution of its software applications. In this role you will set technical direction, guide a team of Kotlin backend developers and collaborate with architects to build scalable, secure and high-performance systems. The position combines hands-on coding and code review with mentoring, on-call duties and close cooperation with support and project management teams.
Responsibilities
- ▹Guide Kotlin backend developers in designing, developing and maintaining applications, setting technical direction and upholding code quality standards
- ▹Collaborate with the software architect to define and evolve system architecture for scalability, performance and security
- ▹Actively engage in coding, code review and the enforcement of best practices
- ▹Collaborate with Customer Support (L1), Infrastructure Support (L2) and Application Support (L3) teams to manage escalations and resolve operational issues
- ▹Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure reliable 24/7 client support, with appropriate compensation
- ▹Mentor and coach team members to promote continuous learning and growth
- ▹Manage tasks and provide technical insights to ensure on-time and on-scope project delivery
- ▹Maintain consistent communication with the Project Manager to ensure alignment
- ▹Stay up to date with the latest Java, Kotlin and backend technologies and introduce relevant ones to improve development processes
Requirements
- ▹Proficiency in the Java ecosystem, familiarity with Java 17 and 21
- ▹Familiarity with back-end frameworks such as Spring, Micronaut or similar
- ▹A strong OOP mindset and commitment to SOLID principles
- ▹Hands-on experience with SQL or NoSQL databases
- ▹A passion for writing clean code
- ▹At least an intermediate level of English, as the team operates internationally
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with Kotlin (the team's language of choice on the JDK)
- ▹Experience with AI-powered coding tools/agents
- ▹Expertise in containerization and Kubernetes
- ▹Familiarity with at least one public cloud provider (AWS focus, also GCP and Azure)
- ▹A genuine interest in staying up to date with the latest industry trends
