Backend Engineer - Risk Assessment Platform
Wise is looking for a Backend Engineer to join its Risk Assessment Platform team, which provides a reliable, centralized platform for all data points used in risk assessments. The engineer provides technical assistance and guidance to Wise's data engineering and machine learning community, taking ownership of difficult technical problems. Success involves contributing to the data engineering vision, getting buy-in from stakeholders and solving complex technical challenges.
Responsibilities
- ▹Provide technical assistance and guidance to Wise's data engineering and machine learning community
- ▹Take ownership of difficult technical problems and drive complex technical decisions
- ▹Participate in the vision for data engineering through documents and conversations and get stakeholder buy-in
- ▹Communicate effectively at different levels of complexity
- ▹Create and review pull requests
Requirements
- ▹5+ years of Java 11+ knowledge (and willingness to quickly learn Python)
- ▹Experience with batch or stream processing (preferably Apache Spark and Flink/Kafka streams)
- ▹Experience with complex systems distributed across several microservices, Kafka, scattered data and ownership
- ▹Strong problem-solving skills to refine problem statements and solve them from first principles
- ▹Ability to drive complex technical decisions and get buy-in from stakeholders
- ▹Hands-on knowledge of system integration patterns
