Senior Backend Engineer - Activation and Revenue
As part of SumUp's Global Bank tribe, the Bank Activation and Revenue team is a high-impact growth engine whose mission is to guide merchants in unlocking value from their SumUp Business Account and to convert 100% of ecosystem users into active bank users. You'll build a greenfield activation and engagement platform through experiments that drive adoption and cross-selling, directly driving revenue. The role uses Golang as the primary language with a high-velocity, daily-delivery engineering culture.
Responsibilities
- ▹Design and implement a trifecta of greenfield services (Banners, Rewards and Feature Toggles) to power global product experimentation
- ▹Create technical logic that tracks and incentivizes users through their first five meaningful transactions
- ▹Own the full lifecycle of features end-to-end, from architectural design to production monitoring (build it, run it, own it)
- ▹Participate in a culture of daily deliveries, moving fast, testing hypotheses and iterating on real-world data
- ▹Build robust APIs powering the mobile and web banking experience while managing complex asynchronous processing for rewards via Kafka
- ▹Collaborate with engineering teams across the Bank and the wider SumUp ecosystem
Requirements
- ▹Solid backend development experience in Golang, with interest in working across multiple languages (Kotlin, Elixir)
- ▹Understanding of system architecture, object-oriented and functional design principles, data modeling and API design (RESTful and event-driven)
- ▹Full ownership of shipped software, valuing clean, maintainable code and continuous refactoring
- ▹Ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs effectively to engineers and technical stakeholders
- ▹Pragmatism in supporting and evolving legacy systems while architecting new services for the long term
Nice to have
- ▹Previous experience in a growth-focused engineering team
- ▹Experience building rules engines or reward/incentive systems
- ▹Familiarity with the fintech or banking regulatory landscape
