Senior Backend Engineer
A senior backend engineering role within HelloTech, HelloFresh's global technology organisation, based in Warsaw. As an external service provider anchoring the technical direction of the Customer Food Profile Squad within the Consumer Mega Alliance, the engineer defines and drives the technical strategy to maximise retention of millions of active customers. The work centres on architecting scalable solutions for subscription management and product ordering, and transitioning the platform towards complex, data-driven personalization including a global and implicit food profile.
Responsibilities
- ▹Define, design and implement scalable, resilient architecture for mission-critical microservices following DevOps best practices
- ▹Independently drive key initiatives, including the global roll-out of the food profile feature and an implicit profiling engine
- ▹Act as the technical authority on the core product architecture and provide technical guidance to engineering peers
- ▹Proactively simplify code and resolve architecture deficiencies
- ▹Partner with Product Owners and Designers to influence feature definition and clarify requirements
- ▹Solve complex problems to ensure system reliability and performance and manage critical system escalations
Requirements
- ▹5+ years of proven expertise in backend development across monolithic, microservice and distributed event-driven architectures
- ▹Hands-on experience using AI coding agents (e.g. Copilot, Cursor) with the ability to verify, test and set boundaries on AI-generated work
- ▹Expertise in Go (or proven proficiency in JVM/Kotlin, Java or Ruby with a commitment to rapidly adapt to Go)
- ▹Proven track record designing and delivering services using Kubernetes and Docker
- ▹Extensive experience implementing true CI/CD pipelines
- ▹Proficiency in design patterns such as TDD, BDD, DDD and distributed architectural patterns
- ▹Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka and/or RabbitMQ
- ▹Working knowledge of MongoDB and PostgreSQL
Nice to have
- ▹Familiarity with e-commerce environments
- ▹Experience with subscription-based business models
- ▹GraphQL integration experience
