An Automation Engineer role at HelloFresh's Derby site (rotating day/night shifts), acting as the site Subject Matter Expert for all control systems, maintenance engineering, sensors, PLCs, communication protocols, and automation. The role works with facilities and maintenance teams to maintain and repair conveyance and automation equipment, supporting uptime and improving system reliability.
Responsibilities
- ▹Actively monitor, fault find and repair systems to provide high equipment availability to internal customers
- ▹Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on automation, robotics and control panels
- ▹Troubleshoot out-of-service equipment, act as an escalation point for lower-level technicians, and escalate to leadership/vendors as needed
- ▹Document all work in the CMMS and ticketing systems
- ▹Lead root cause analysis of major downtime events and act as a network resource for technical issues
- ▹Mentor maintenance personnel on intermediate to advanced automation, controls and robotics
- ▹Partner with engineering on commissioning of new control systems and audit vendor work
Requirements
- ▹Qualified or solid practical understanding in Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
- ▹Experience in Automation, Mechanical, or Maintenance Engineering, ideally in a manufacturing/production environment such as FMCG
- ▹Proficient in PLC-controlled systems: programming, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and related control systems
- ▹Able to interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings and schematics for diagnostics
- ▹Skilled in both reactive and preventative maintenance, handling second-line escalations and CMMS tasks
- ▹Experience with material handling systems, flow analysis, capacity visualization and process monitoring
Nice to have
- ▹Experience standing in as proxy for senior automation engineers
- ▹Experience writing/modifying PMs to standardize across a network
