Software Engineer (Security) - Tech Foundations
Alan is a health insurance and prevention company serving over 1M members. This is a hands-on security software engineering role in the Application Security crew within the Tech Foundations area. The mission is to build, evolve, and operate the foundational security building blocks and secure-by-default patterns that make Alan's products safe by design, highly available, and easy to ship, while partnering with product teams and Security Operations to reduce real risk. The role targets the C1 level range.
Responsibilities
- ▹Design, build, and operate the authentication stack on top of the self-hosted identity provider, aiming to go passwordless with great UX
- ▹Build, evolve, and operate the end-to-end encryption component used by Alan Clinic
- ▹Evolve and operate the secure file exchange platform to unblock product and operations teams
- ▹Contribute to the foundations of a secure enclave that isolates and protects highly sensitive medical data
- ▹Build tools and patterns that help every engineer ship safely (secure CI/CD, vulnerability remediation tooling, AI/LLM safety)
- ▹Ship code to production yourself and operate it: rollouts, alerting, on-call, incident response
Requirements
- ▹3+ years in full-stack software engineering roles
- ▹Experience designing systems, APIs, libraries, or frameworks used by other engineers
- ▹Track record of shipping, owning, and operating production systems (rollouts, on-call, incidents)
- ▹Experience shipping secure features, fixing vulnerabilities, designing auth/crypto flows, or championing secure-by-default patterns
- ▹Hands-on coding ability in Python, TypeScript, and Terraform
- ▹Fluent in English (French not required)
Nice to have
- ▹Ability to make complex security tradeoffs legible to non-security engineers
- ▹Experience building reusable guardrails, libraries, and secure-by-default abstractions
