Senior/Staff Backend Engineer (remote friendly)
As a Backend Engineer at Qonto you build the financial infrastructure that 600,000+ European SMEs depend on every day, from highly scalable APIs to robust banking services that handle real money in real time with zero room for mistakes. You co-own service architecture, resilience and scalability following Domain-Driven Design principles, and grow in technical leadership by leading design discussions and mentoring less experienced engineers. The role is remote friendly for candidates living in (or willing to relocate to) Germany, France, Italy, Serbia or Spain.
Responsibilities
- ▹Design, build, deploy and maintain services handling real financial transactions, owning reliability in production, not just at merge time
- ▹Co-own service architecture, resilience and scalability with respect to Domain-Driven Design principles
- ▹Lead design discussions, anticipate risks and mentor less experienced engineers
- ▹Drive continuous improvement, from fixing flaky CI to running post-mortems and propagating learnings across the team
Requirements
- ▹Strong backend engineering experience with exposure to large-scale web application architecture and real production constraints
- ▹Stack fluency: you transfer fast and are comfortable with similar technologies even without knowing the exact stack
- ▹Quality-driven: you write tests, set up monitoring, handle incidents methodically and do root cause analysis
- ▹Ownership mindset: you track impact after release, flag regressions and improve your scope without being asked
- ▹Team player comfortable in squad teams with PMs, Designers and other stacks
- ▹Fluent in English
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with Go and Ruby
- ▹Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, Kafka and ELK
