Community Software Engineer | Remote | Europe

n8n is looking for a Community Software Engineer to support community-driven development by reviewing community pull requests, vetting community nodes, and improving how external contributions become reliable product improvements. Working within Community Engineering, you will keep contribution flows moving smoothly, build tooling and automation around the review process, and fix bugs affecting contributors and workflow reliability. The role offers clearer ecosystem visibility than most, surfacing patterns from the community back to the internal engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Review submitted community nodes for code quality, security patterns, credential handling, UX conventions, and demo videos
  • Operate and improve the review pipeline from automated checks through human verification, approval, and production release
  • Build tooling and automation for the review process: Linear workflows, author communication flows, release process
  • Triage incoming community PRs: assess quality, route to the right team, or close with clear reasoning
  • Give timely, constructive first responses to contributors
  • Maintain tooling for scoring, Linear state tracking, CODEOWNERS routing, and stale PR automation
  • Debug and fix bugs affecting contributors, node behaviour, or workflow reliability
  • Make targeted documentation improvements to reduce friction for contributors and builders
  • Surface patterns from PRs, node submissions, and contributor feedback to the internal engineering team
  • Contribute to node enhancements and adjacent engineering tasks that make n8n easier to extend and maintain

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience building, debugging, and maintaining production-quality JavaScript or TypeScript code
  • Ability to investigate bugs in a codebase with external dependencies such as APIs, SDKs, and third-party services
  • Understanding of REST APIs and common authentication methods such as OAuth and API keys
  • Familiarity with n8n or workflow automation; basic node development is a strong plus
  • Comfort with CLI tools and package managers such as npm or pnpm
  • Clear written communication in async community settings such as PR comments and review threads

Nice to have

  • Open-source contribution experience, even small fixes, docs updates, or community PRs
  • Community-facing technical experience supporting developers or contributors directly
  • Experience at a Series A/B startup or developer tooling company
